Who we are
Joy Christopher started training in 1996, shortly after she and her new husband adopted two puppies. After 6 months of chaos, she joined a group class where she learnt how to manage her rambunctious babies. The training bug bit, and before long she was invited to take part in a trainer’s course at the Cape Province Dog Club. She trained beginner’s class until a job opportunity took her and her husband to the USA.
During the 9 years spent in the USA, Joy furthered her training as a trainer and was employed by Petsmart, a national pet shop chain, as a trainer. Here she trained puppies and older dogs and was introduced to clicker training. Joy was also a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and a Certified American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator while in the USA. She also raised 2 guide dog puppies, one of which is currently a working guide in Canada. Her second puppy was chosen to be a breeder.
Joy has two special interests. Firstly, to teach the modern family and pet how to understand each other in a home setting, thereby ensuring their continued place in the home. Her second interest is the field of service dogs. She hopes one day to train service dogs to assist the physically and emotionally handicapped members of our society.
